Vaccination help??! opinions please thanks :)

Hi i need someone to explain this to me like i am 5: vaccination pros and cons i've done a little bit of research but i am still on the fence. my baby girl is due in 9 weeks and today my brother-in-law, who is a med student, randomly started chirping at me about vaccinating and i realized i seriously haven't decided yet! so please tell me what you know and your opinions and thank you in advance

I don't understand parents who would choose not have their children vaccinated.  Hurts them for a few seconds getting the jags but protects them against a lot of things!

Diseases did not go away. You're incredibly lucky and privileged to live in a time and place where vaccines are available to you. Protect your child and those around you who are too young to be vaccinated or have compromised immune systems.

I am very pro-vax. The research done on anti-vax is very skewed and even if the vaccination caused what it says it would I can't imagine anything worse than watching your child die and suffer from something that was preventable. Plus I don't want my child being put at risk for a disease that they aren't old enough for the vaccination by a child who isn't vaccinated because of the parents. Please please please vaccinate!

Vaccinations have always been controversial.  The word vaccination comes from the Latin word "vaca" meaning cow because the first vaccine used the cow pox virus to provide immunity for small pox.  There has always been a certain level of discomfort with vaccines because it seems very unnatural to use a virus from one organism to provide immunity for another.

Vaccines became widely popular for many years because they protected against some really awful diseases.  Some of those diseases were considered eradicated in developed countries, but with global travel and a resuragance of non-vaxing, there has also been a resurgence in the once believed eradicated diseases.

A previous poster mentioned that we don't understand how immunity works.  That is not entirely true.  Enough is understood to know that vaccinations have made a mostly positive difference.

I would recommend you learn about the diseases vaccines protect against.  Then you should investigate the side effects of the vaccines to make an educated decision.  Also, look into herd immunity - because your vaccination decision doesn't just affect you (likewise, others vaccination decisions can impact you).  Try to remove the bias from your research.  So many people claim they "researched" the subject when they just looked for validation for their bias.
