lactation consultant?

For us first time mamas who are going to try breastfeed, are you setting yourself up with a LC (lactation consultant) before giving birth? Or going to try yourself & will only call one if you need help?

We have one come in at the hospital but our hospital also has a couple hours everyday where you can drop in for a free consultation!

One will visit us right after the birth and be available throughout our hospital stay. Our midwife's package includes 6 weeks follow up care that includes home visits. She's not a lactation consultant but well versed in feeding and can refer us to a consultant if she feels like we need it.

My labor and delivery supplies us with a consultant in the first hour during skin to skin and then a follow up if you're still struggling. If you have to pay for one out of pocket I would wait until you try or have an issue. If you have any issues I strongly recommend it!

we took a 1 hour breastfeeding class hosted by my birth center last week. it was informative, but I'm sure I will end up having questions while I'm getting the hang of things after birth. you could look up YouTube videos of what a proper latch will look like (and what not to do), that was the most important part; also, I didn't realize there were so many different bf positions, so that was helpful!
