can you really nurse and babywear a newborn handsfree?

Ladies, I bought myself an ergo carrier for when my baby is born in a couple of months and I'm trying to figure out how the breastfeeding situation in public is going to work. Even if I have easy-access shirts to pull the boob put discretely, how is a newborn going to easily latch on to one of the nipples if they're laying to either side? The carrier can be adjusted down so she will sit lower on my chest, but she'll still be in the center. Do I need to buy a sling to position her more to the side? Has anyone successfully breastfed handsfree with an ergo or any other kind of carrier or sling? I want to be able to do other stuff while the kid eats. Thank you!
