when do car rides get easier???

FTM here and I absolutely dread car rides when I have to bring baby with me. Most of the time he doesn't like the ride and will wake up and cry. Even if I feed him/change/etc he squirms and fusses. I get anxiety being on the road with him.. even if it's just 30 minutes I have to try to distract him and most of the time it doesn't work. When will car rides get easier? Or will he always dislike being in his car seat??? I've tried white noise, music, toys, lowering the windows..last time I let him cry on the way home he started coughing and it seemed like he was choking. So scary! 😭😭😭😭
