NEED HELP!!

My period hasn't really been a period. The first day was really heavy and the next 4 days after was pretty much dark red spotting. I TTC November 1...took a pregnancy test November 15..came out negative. My period has never acted the way it has been now. Not sure what to do. I would like someone's opinion on this please!
