High lipasa vs "bad" freezer
So after four months of pumping and freezing I had to go back to work and when defrosting the breast milk it turns out it's sour and baby hates it (he barely drinks two drops and starts crying nonstop).
I read a lot (a lot!!!) And it seemed like I have high lipase making my milk sour when frozen. The only answer seemed to be scalding the milk.
I did try scalding and it work, milk was fine.
I did try something else though too...
My freezer is "no frost". I think all freezers are like that now a days. They look better and you dont get ice sculptures in there. Well I read somewhere that high lipase breastmilk goes sour on this kind of freezer but not on regular ones. So I found an old fridge with a conventional freezer and, for my surprise, it works! No scalding and I can freeze my milk with no problem!!!
I have no clue on why this worked (if someone does please share!) But I thought I'd share my story in case it helps anyone.
Ps: I still refuse to throw away my "sour" stash, it makes me sad and angry to have to waste all that milk but at least I can slowly start it again
