dog v. baby....
My husband and I were thinking about getting a dog... well then we did the calculations and realized that having a baby would be basically the same cost as a baby for the first 2 years.
.
Mostly that's because our area is awesome with people adopting strays, the only dogs available regularly are big farm dogs (that don't work in small apartments like ours). I refuse to support irresponsible breeding, and responsible breeders have VERY high prices.
.
We were planning on very minimal items along with cloth prefold diapering, breast feeding with baby led weaning, homemade baby food, and used/handmedowns/consignment baby clothes. Plus my insurance pretty much covers everything (including breast pump).
.
At the moment I'm looking for work, but we're fine for now. My husband will be doing school/work in the day and I'll be finding a job where I can work the evening shift where I'll work (hopefully at a good grocery store in the area). So that we can cut down on childcare costs.
.
Also we won't be trying until I find work. I was just surprised (I shouldn't be) that they almost cost about the same amount!
