You can only get STDs from someone that has them?

STDs are curable so why would anyone have sex when they have an STD? I'm curious. Do they not know? Or are they just reckless? Can you get an STD any other way (salvia, needles etc)?

Not all STIs are curable. The viral ones generally are not, so herpes, HIV, and some forms of HPV. Transmission depends on the disease, but usually contact, blood, or other bodily fluid. Not everyone knows when they have one, because cheating is a thing, which is why it's always important to wear condoms until you both get tested. I recommend immediately, and around 6 months, because not all diseases show up immediately.

Are contact (herpes if there is an outbreak and you have an opening in your skin) having sex or salvia. It just depends. A lot of people just simply don't know. For instance you can be a carrier of herpes and never actually have an outbreak but can give it to a partner. That's why condoms are always a good idea and getting tested after every new partner.
