lotion in newborns?

My daughter is 12 days old and has really dry skin in her hands and belly. Is it okay to put aveeno baby lotion on her?

Are you sure it's actually dry skin? With newborns it's normal for their top layer of skin to peel, especially if they were born on time or late. My son is two weeks old today. His skin looked awful a couple of days ago, but now it's mostly cleared up.

From what I've read and been advised, there's no need to use lotions. Also, no need to bathe the baby more than 2-3x per week.

I have been putting lotion on my little guy. I made a comment about it to his pediatrician, and she did not say anything.

It's normal for babies to have dry skin. I asked about it!  The nurse said it'll start going away on it's own but if I wanted to a mild lotion is ok.  My baby is 11 days old and still has some dry skin but I haven't used anything yet on it.  If you want to it's fine to do though!

You can use coconut oil,  Shea moisture Shea Butter for baby, Vaseline, or aquaphor ointment.
