My Paragard IUD experience

Alana
Hi Ladies, just downloaded this app today and am glad to have done so. Saw some other posts and just wanted to share my own personal experience in having the Paragard IUD for just over a year now. Being that I've never had a baby or abortion, the insertion was pretty painful since I had a virgin cervix. The first week of cramping was pretty awful but my body slowly but surely adjusted. In the last year that I've had it my periods were pretty irregular, sometimes I would go a few months of spotting and then the actual periods were really heavy. I often had some bleeding from sex and really bad cramps. In the past I tried various hormone based birth controls, from the pill to Nuva Ring for years prior to Paragard and they just had a very negative effect on me physically and mentally. Finally I got on a health kick and decided to let my body be natural but still didn't want to risk pregnancy and I must say the wait for my body to adjust was well worth it. There were definitely times I had considered having it removed but now that my periods are regular I can honestly say it was well worth the wait. No pregnancy scares, mentally and physically I'm way healthier than I was when I was on a hormone based birth control and all is well! Hope this was helpful for anyone adjusting to/considering the IUD.
