Well, unfortunately I wait until it gets a whitehead on it. Then I pop it and I squeeze until all the gook comes out. Sometimes there is a hair and sometimes there isn't it just ends up being a clogged pore on the times it isn't a hair. If you pick it before there is a whitehead it might just stay sore for longer.

Could be a very ingrown hair. I get them every now and then. They start out like a pimple and then when you pop it there's a tiny hair. Once you pull it out it all goes away.
