Pumping?

When did you ladies start pumping? I have a 9 day old and he feeds pretty good, but sometimes he doesn't and I can't tell if he is getting enough or if my breast is empty. I'm also supplementing with formula per Dr's orders for mild jaundice and weight gain. Also, how long do you pump on each side?

I would start pumping once you hit the 2 month mark to make sure you establish a good supply, drink plenty of water, and eat snacks. At 3 weeks you'll notice the cluster feeding starting during the growth spurt once you get past that it's oretty smooth sailing, as per formula it can hinder your supply as it's supply and demand right? So if lo is topping up with formula they are missing out on the extra breast milk. Pumping will not necessarily give you a good idea of how much you are producing since babies get milk out so much better. Good luck momma you are doing wonderfully.

I've been pumping since I got home from the hospital. I wanted to make sure I had a high supply to start my freezer stash. I pump every 4 hours (more often if baby isn't eating a lot that day)
