blood work on a 9 month old??? 💉

My son just went to the doctors with his father, they told him he needs to get blood work done for my 9 month old son. Has anyone else experienced this?? I am not comfortable with them doing blood work on him this little!! They want to test him for lead. He told me the doctor told them they test around the year mark and three years old.

Yeah our pediatrician did blood work at my daughter's 9 month appointment a couple weeks ago. Took blood from her toe.

You can also opt for them to prick the tip of their finger and they place the blood on a sheet of paper to test that way. My insurance doesn't cover that way, so I pay out of pocket. It's about $25. I brought my daughter for the actual blood work when she was 9 months (shes three now) and it was hard to keep her still like that.

That's accurate. Normally around one year is the first time they test for lead. I know some places do it based off of the year of your house. I don't remember the cut off but I know my house is well before it so my LO will be getting tested either way. The act of drawing blood, while scary and uncomfortable, will not hurt your baby. Actually it should hurt less than their immunizations. The benefit of knowing about high lead levels before causing permanent brain damage is well worth it.
