Epidural???

Question

I'm torn between getting an epidural and not. I've read up on the topic and have educated myself. But I'm still unsure. Can you share your experience with or without?

I had one . I was being induced and decided to get one so that I can rest as much as I can before pushing. For some reason I thought that I wouldn't be able to push accurately since other woman stated they couldn't feel anything from the epidural. My experience was different. I was able to feel my legs and pressure just not the contractions on my stomach . Pushed 3 times and my baby was out.

I got it when the pain became Unbearable and i dont regret it. I haven't had any complications from it.

I got one and was happy at the time but the repercussions of it can suck. I couldn't pee for what felt the longest time after I had the baby because of the catheter they put in while you have the epidural. It was horrible because I felt like I had to pee so bad it hurt but the muscles wouldn't work down there! Also you have to be wheelchaired after because the feeling in your legs takes a while to come back. On top of that the spot the epidural was in in my spine tingled in the most annoying way. Oh ya and a lot of insurance companies don't cover them so it's a pretty bill that the anesthesiologist sends you.

I had an epidural and it was amazing. I could still move my legs some but I couldn't feel my contractions anymore. I still felt pressure when it was time to push but it wasn't painful. I am so glad I got my epidural.

I think research and birth plans are great- I did plenty and had a birth plan...hubby and dr had copies in advance. I think we only followed through on one item. Educate yourself bit don't put too much pressure on knowing what's right or wrong in advance. Every woman is different and every labor is different! My sister had her first without any drugs, and the second (I'd think should be easier) was Terrible and she demanded one.... do what's best for you at the time. You're educated and understand your options and pros and cons of each- take it from there!

I did not but when I hit 8cm I was screaming for one but I progressed too fast. Contractions hurt, I'm undecided on if I want an epidural with my next. It would be nice to be able to rest a little during labor, mine was 14 hours long and I was exhausted by the time I had him.

I didn't have one. I was able to move around a lot which I think greatly shortened my labour (6 hours with only a couple of pushes). I was able to go home that morning and felt great! Recovery was very quick. But I won't lie- contractions are a bitch. I felt like I was being turned inside out! Maybe plan for no epidural but leave the option there. You never know what's going to happen. If my labour had been 20 hours I probably would have caved and got it

I didn't want to have one but ended up having one because I pulled a muscle and couldn't walk anyways. It had it's pros and cons. No pain is nice but the fact that I couldn't feel myself pushing ended up with me getting a third degree episiotomy. That was not fun at all.
