So long story as short as I can get it. My brother in law has a 8 week old daughter. He is not with the mother of the child. When she went to the hospital to have my niece (Mckenzie or mini as I call her) they drug tested her and she failed for opiates. They opened a cps case and then she passed her follow up drug screen so they closed the cps case. Her and my brother in law are currently splitting custody. Not officially but just between the two of them, it's their little arrangement. My brother lives with my husband and I. And she has been with her daddy for all but 2 of the last 11 days. We aren't complaining because we love her to pieces. But we are pretty sure that mom is back on drugs now. And we got the paperwork from cps and they never drug tested my niece in the hospital to see if she had anything in her system. Ive noticed that she has multiple withdrawal symptoms. The doctor that told the nurses to NOT drug test the baby is the same doctor who dismisses my brothers concerns about withdrawal. And to make matters worse, baby's mom is dating and living with a registered sex offender convicted of child molestation. Obviously we are not okay with mini being around a child molester but we aren't sure what steps to take to get her out of the situation. Does anyone have any advice? My brother really doesn't have the money to hire an attorny and unfortunately we live in Indiana which is a notorious mom state. It's really hard to watch her struggle with the affects of her mom's addiction and know that she is going back home to a sex offender. We don't know what to do or where to turn. Any help would be appreciated
