Early Christmas Present via Emergency C/S
Absolutely nothing went according to birth plan! I was thinking unmedicated, natural, vaginal delivery. Instead I got an emergency c-section 😛
Sweet baby boy was due 12/21 but decided to come on 11/29 at 3AM. It was a great, normal pregnancy but delivery was anything but! It started on 11/28 from the moment I woke up I felt very crampy and fatigued. I called my husband and told him I felt like I was having menstrual cramps all day and wanted to just sleep all day. He told me to take it easy and not worry about anything and just watch Netflix and read all day. I of course ended up doing a lot of house work and went to therapy and came home and made dinner. My husband got home and we played a couple of games together and went to bed. This is where it gets good! At 11:30PM I literally heard a "POP!" and felt a waterfall dumping out of me. I stood up and another gush came and then another and another! It was non stop. I screamed for my husband and he got up and saw me standing in a lake of my own bodily fluids and started running around the house getting our bag and car seat and packed the car. He came back in two seconds with several towels and I wrapped myself and we went to the hospital. I called on the way to let them know I was coming. I got there and I was rushed to L&D into a room. They didn't triage me after they saw I was leaving another ocean in my wake 😂 I get into the room and they check me for dilation. I was 4cm and surprise! "I feel his hand through your cervix. His hand is trying to come out first!" I asked what they could do about it. The OB on call (my midwife couldn't make it) told me I could get an epidural and he could go in and try to manipulate the baby into moving his hand. I agreed. So they called the anesthesiologist and by then I was contracting hard and fast. It took a while for the anesthesiologist to come and I was breathing through my contractions and visualizing all the happy things in the world. I get my epidural after about 45 minutes, the nurse checks me again. Her eyes get wide and she calls the doctor and says "this has to be a c-section." I was at 6cm and the umbilical cord prolapsed and she had to put it back up and hold it there. The staff went into emergency op mode right away. The whole time everyone else was around me in a frenzy the nurse sat there with me with her hand up my cervix pushing my baby and umbilical cord up. I got to the hospital at 12AM and my little boy entered the world at 3AM. The staff was amazing. I had every reason to be anxious and crying and throwing a fit but the staff kept me calm and informed. Birth plan was absolutely thrown out the window but my sweetie is here safe and sound thanks to the entire staff working together to ensure his arrival. He was 6lbs 7oz and 19 inches of pure perfection at birth at 36+6 weeks! (I absolutely adore his chubby cheeks and triple chin 😂)
