When a spouse blindsides you with drug addiction, can the marriage recover?

Husband of nearly 9 yrs blindsided me at the start of 2016 with substance abuse, mostly cocaine. Im completely and utterly against it in general, but mostly for the sake of our 2 small children.

Ive tried to help him and encourage him to get help all year. He is still using and showing no signs of quitting. But he wants to "work it out", while I'm calling divorce attorneys.

Do marriages usually over come an obstacle such as this?

Honestly if it's not okay with you and he has no desire to change then I don't see how it could work. Especially if you're so against it.

Just leave him and avoid all of that stress. If he gets clean and relapses, your heart will be broken. Well that's how I felt anyways. I especially wouldn't want him showing my children such a horrible example. He should care enough about his children to go to rehab if his problem is really that bad.

I'll just say I dated a drug addict for 5 years and most of the relationship he was in and out of jail/prison/rehab.. I realized no matter what I did, what I offered, he was never going to change.

Only if the partner with the substance abuse problem truly wants to accept help and get clean. Otherwise it's a cyclical battle of rehab and relapses. I've watched my parents go through it for the past 12 years.
