sciatica nerve damage?

For the past 8 weeks since I gave birth I've had a shooting pain from my lower back down my left leg to my heel. Now the bottom of my foot and my calf are numb. I feel my foot and calf but it feels like I have numbing cream on them, if that makes sense, has anyone experienced anything similar. I'm starting to get very worried. I'm waiting for Doctor to call me back for an apt but in feeling a lot of anxiety not knowing anything and having these symptoms. Please comment if this has happened to you. I did have an epidural and it only worked on my left leg. The leg that is bothering me today. ?? Could this be the reason??
