Birthday Story!
So I wanted to post my full birth story since I learned so much from reading everyone else's. I went into labor naturally about 1am Wednesday morning at 38+5 weeks. I had a few really strong contractions that pulled me out of bed, and I was feeling restless. Got out of bed, made some food, finished packing my bag, and took a shower before waking my husband at about 3:30. At 3:30 contractions were about 8 minutes apart. I was able to breathe through them, but they were definitely hurting. I called my doula to come sit with me. I labored at home until about 5:30am at which point my contractions were consistently about 5 minutes apart. My doula suggested we go to the hospital since I was already 4cm at my last appointment and we had a 45 minute drive. We left and got to the hospital a little after 6. Checked-5cm, contractions 3 minutes apart. Here is where I totally lost it. I didn't want an epidural but I was FREAKING out. I couldn't relax and I was starting to lose myself. I decided on some IV pain meds instead of epidural at about 8:30am. They knocked me out and I ended up napping for the next 3ish hours on and off and waking up to contractions. If I hadn't had the pain meds I probably would have delivered much earlier (they stalled my contractions quite a bit), but I needed them to help me get in the right zone. I was able to focus and get myself through the pain. Anyway, I really woke up again around 11am. I was 8cm. Labored for another hour or so and was 10cm. Nurses came in and we "practice pushed" for about 45 minutes and got baby down into position. Doctor came in and I pushed for another 30 minutes or so, and he was here! I ended up getting a small episiotomy that required 1 stitch. When the doctor offered it I wanted him out so bad I couldn't see straight. Pushing is NO JOKE. Honestly way harder than I expected. It's really hard to force your body to keep doing something that hurts so dang bad, so I kept getting a good push going and then stalling out because his head would start to come out and it hurt. I kind of freaked out again during pushing. I kept trying to lie to the nurses about when I was having contractions so they wouldn't make me push 😬. They figured out my plan quickly. But, he made it in the end! Felix Henry was born 11/30/16 at 2:14pm weighing in at 8lbs 11oz and 20inches long. He's beautiful and perfect ❤️. Thanks for reading if you made it this far!
