To sum it up, an American school wants to make taking and passing Spanish class mandatory in their school system, specifically high school. They would have to take the class and pass to graduate. It will not be a replacement for regular Language/English/Comp classes, so they would still have to take those classes too. If it is taken before high school then it will probably have to be taken again during high school.

Some people are stating it will put more unnecessary pressure on students, will distract them from taking classes they need to take for specific careers/colleges, or just isn't necessary because English is the primarily spoken language.
