He came 19 days early...
Due December 21st with my second baby. This time, a little boy! I was 2cm, 50% effaced and -3 station before leaving for vacation cleared by my doctor. I had a false alarm while out of town over thanksgiving, was monitored for a few hours with regular contractions but no progression. Contractions continued until Dec 1st when they started from the time I woke up around 9am and became regular about 7 minutes apart close to 11. My labor with my first went quickly so I was instructed to go in then but went with a friend because I didn't want hubby to take off for another false alarm. Got to the hosipital at around 2:30 with regular contractions and after an hour I'd progressed to 3cm, checked again in a couple hours and I was 4cm and they admitted me around 7pm. Labor sped up and slowed down several times... wasn't looking like it was going to go much of anywhere quick but they couldn't let me leave. I tried walking, ball, tub... not much. Finally around 12:30am I decided to lay down and try to rest. Didn't get any rest because laying on my right side amped up contractions. They came on fast and strong so I got in the tub to ease labor pains since I had planned to try without medication this time. Well shortly after getting in the tub, I decided I couldn't push on and asked for the epidural. They got me out of the tub and started the mandatory fluids before you can receive the epidural and by the time the anesthesiologist had it in, I was in transition. The epidural didn't kick in and I went through transition with no relief. Screaming and writhing, he came and gave me another dose, which kicked in in time for birth but I was still having a lot of pain during contractions on my left side due to how baby was laying. Around 4:30am the doctor was called and she came thinking I was 10cm and bulging waters, she broke my water and realized I was only 8, we waited about 30 minutes and then delivered our sweet Leonidas with 15 minutes of pushing. A minor tear that required no repair. He went straight to chest for almost the full hour before NICU came to get him due to respitory issues. He was transferred over the bridge to Cooks Children's and is going to be there probably a couple days for help breathing. Prayers for my sweet little man, we just barely made him a December baby born at 37&2!
