Play pen instead of crib?

Question

Is it okay for a baby to just sleep in a play pen instead of a crib? I can't really afford a crib so I'd have to save up for one.  I'm expecting to have the baby sleep in the play pen for a few months. Is it safe? And will it be uncomfortable for them?

We bought a gorgeous crib and she's 5 months old and hasn't even laid in it!! She's still in our room and I'm not ready to move her!! I say save your money and get a pack n play! I use mine ALL the time!

Yes we are getting a pack n play with the built in bassinet cheaper and takes up less room lol

My first child slept in his pack n play for 18 months. We added a thicker mattress and he loved it! It's portable and so convenient! Save you're money!

Yes, pack n plays (play yards) are a safe alternative to cribs. Just be sure that it's set up correctly. A bassinet would another safe, non-crib option.

Walmart has cribs as cheap as playpens if you shop online. The "mattress" in a playpen isn't really comfortable.

Yes it is i waisted money on cribs with my first kids cause they slept in a bassinet then went to the pack and play i just bought this one for the baby im having now

I have a crib in my nursery but we have a pack and play with a bassinet on top beside our bed where the baby will sleep for her first 6 months. She seems very comfortable. She's almost 6 weeks old now.
