should he expect the money back

So I've been with my bf for a year. We talk about marriage children and building a life together. I am a single Mother and I live on my own. He has no children And lives at home with his mother. We are both in our mid 20's attending school. He works As a financial aide assistant aT a technical college an ok currently unemployed( receiving unemployment) since school has started they've changed him from salary to hourly and cut his hours. He complains that his pay isn't the same And it bothers him. I asked my bf for 50.00 to help pay my rent. I didn't tell him what it was for nor did he ask .when I asked he first said he didn't have it an he was broke. Then a little later asked when will I give it back. I told him the following week. Am I wrong for feeling ways that he wants the money back or that, that's was his only concern and not if I'm ok. The way I look at things is if I have it we have it. He claims he's broke but knowing the kind of man he is he probably has 2000 in his savings account and consider that broke. Am I wrong for feelings like maybe this isn't someone that considers our relationship serious or maybe he does not care about me and my wellbeing?
