bacterial vaginosis/vaginitis

So I thought I had bacterialvaginosis or vaginitis,so I went for a Pap and everything came back clear again. So my doc just told me to use prevegyne which is for these conditions and I did and it went away thank goodness. But what I'm wondering is why didn't it show up in any of my testing? Has anyone else experienced this?
