Military relationships

I have been talking to this guys I met through someone I used to have a huge crush on. His name is Nate and he is in the army. I really really like him and he says that he likes me. He is currently stationed in Georgia with my friend Tommy. I would like his to ask me to be his girlfriend but he's not ready and I have to respect that. But do you think it's too soon?
