How long were you together when you said it? And how did you know you loved them?

He told me afterflur days which sounds silly. But we had met and spent an entire 3 days together and bonded really tightly I just knew he was special. Never connected with someone so much. We spend everyday together and go through it all together

Thanks for the replies! I've had serious relationships before but I feel like I've told them really early on in the relationship, like 2 weeks in. I've been dating a new guy for a month so far and I want to tell him I love him but I'm being more cautious this time around so I'm not sure how much longer I should wait until I tell him.

In my language (Slovenian) we have 2 different verbs for I love you. First one is more general for your close friends,  family,... And the second one is just for your significant other. It would sound weird if you used it for your mum or someone like that.
For the first one, he said it first after a few months of unofficially dating and I immediately replied back. 
And for the more serious I love you. I was a little bit mad because he wasn't thrilled abouth something.  And I just said I love you but I am nit doing that instead of you. And walked out. And I didn't realised what I said. He just texted me: do you know what you said.  I was so confused and he was like so happy.

We were together for almost 2 months. We really clicked when we met and I kept telling my friend that I was probably gonna end up with him. I don't know exactly how i knew but he just was different from all the guys i was with or that tryed to get with me. He wasn't a jerk and we had a meaningful conversation for about 3 hours. He wasn't just worried about sex and still called me the next day even though all we did was talk and smoke. If I needed anything he was there he even took off work to make sure i was okay and get my medicine after i fell climbing the rocks at the lake.
