First Pap Smear

I have to get my first pap smear soon. What should I expect from the experience? I'm seeing a brand new doctor and I just want to be prepared so I won't be as nervous. I know they use a metal thing to open you up and then they scrape something on your cervix, right? Anything else I should know?
