is it possible to get pregnant while not ovulating?

Question

Has anyone not been "ovulating" and got pregnant? I would just like to have other opinions. My boyfriend and I have been dating for 4 years( just about to go onto 5yrs) have a great relationship together and even bought a house together, we constantly talk about the day I get pregnant but I always say no bc he hasnt tied the not with me yet. We use condoms always, but I would like to start using the pull out method. We do sometimes but always use condoms. Since now we have been talking about a baby a lot more I would like to use the pull out method since we both would be super happy if it would happen accidentally, but I just would just like some opinions bc I am watching my fertility and ovulation times and will use condoms when ovulating and pull out when I'm not

You should use physical methods of tracking your ovulation like taking ovulation tests and tracking cervical mucus, cervical placement, and basal temp. You shouldn't just guess based on the average as that isn't very accurate, especially if you're going to use your fertility to decide when to use condoms or to avoid pregnancy. You should look into how to use the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) to avoid pregnancy.
You can only get pregnant if sperm is present when an egg is released. So if you have sex within a week of when you ovulate you could get pregnant. Usually ovulation is fairly regular and will occur at roughly the same point in your cycle every time. BUT for some people it isn't very regular and sometimes people ovulate randomly (for example, they may normally ovulate at CD 15 but this month it happens at CD7). If you're not tracking your cycle with physical methods and just using a calendar, then there's no way to know if that is in fact when you ovulate so it wouldn't be very helpful for TTA or TTC.

If you're not ovulating then there are no eggs being realeased so therefore you cannot get pregnant. How do you know you're not ovulating? Birth control pills/shots/implants are supposed to prevent eggs from being realeased but they're not 100% effective, especially if not taken appropriately. With that said, if you do not want to get pregnant at this exact moment, I would suggest not using the pull out "method." And continue to use condoms.

My husband and I have been using the Billings Ovulation Method for a year and a half now and it has worked wonderfully for us to avoid getting pregnant until we are ready.

There is always always always a risk to getting pregnant. Sperm can live for 7 days in your body so even if you aren't ovulating when you have sex that doesn't mean you won't get pregnant
