Natural birth

I have planned to go natural during my labor and delivery. Yes, I'm a FTM. Yes, I know it hurts a lot!
My own mother said "oh, you're not really going to do that!" It really hurt my feelings. I've tried building up the courage to do this. I know my body was made for this, but why do people feel the need to put a women down for trying? I don't usually let those comments bother me, but coming from my own mother is different. She has seen me in pain that most don't ever experience (I had a very extensive surgery on two parts of my spine, had to learn how to walk again, and suffer from spasms and nerve damage) but I can't go through labor without medication? It will be a different type of pain, obviously, but I believe I'm a strong person. You would think my mom would too.
