Am I being selfish ?

Hi everyone, I'm currently 11 wks and I've been thinking about joining the military once I have my child. Do y'all think it's selfish of me to want to be on AD once my child is born? I want the best for us but my family may not see it that way.. I've been wanting to go the military for a while now but things in life happen and I got up with work and other things but now I'm seriously considering it. I'm only 21 and I want my panda to have to Best Buy I don't want to seem like "that mom, who isn't around there child" I also don't want him/ her to forget about me. 😥

I don't think it's selfish at all! I was just out of high school when I joined with no kids, but I knew a lot of women in my flight who had children and babies back home and they struggled a bit. Just remember it would only be two months then you have a life time job and family! (As long as you don't do anything that would get you in serious trouble)

Trust me you'll meet a lot of people that join for their family, medical benefits are a lot better in the military. I had just turned 21 when I decided to join the Army and while it's had its ups and downs I don't regret doing it. My husband also joined right after he saw how much better off I was after my training was done (BCT) he left right before I graduated AIT. We still aren't stationed together and I'm due in 9 days, we've technically been apart for 2 years (been dating since 17) but only married for 1 year. It's not selfish and if you want to do this then do it despite what everyone tells you, they will eventually come around to the idea and will definitely be proud of you once they see how much good it's done for you! Right now I'm a mechanic so I work with the heavy and light wheeled vehicles, I'm about to start college again and get a degree in criminal justice while changing my mos (hopefully) to K9 handler. Stay in a few more years and when I get out/retire I want to breed German shepherds/Belgians for the military/ police departments for search and rescue type stuff and protection work

It's really hard at first. I just got out of basic a few months ago. It was hard leaving my baby girl. (She's 3.) but it's completely worth it to me. I'll be able to provide for her anything she needs. And she understands when mommy has to leave for "work" I get her back with me when I'm finished with tech school.
