Dear Brestfeeding mom's.. drinking?!

Victoria

Now I hear different stories..

Ones say you can have one drink per day

Others say 2wice a week

While others say even as much as 1 per hr...

Do you drink? If so.. how much and how often..

Haven't had a drink in almost 11 months and the wine is calling my name.

My lactation specialist told me "if you can drive, you can nurse" but I follow the rule of  "one beer, wait an hour or two till you nurse "

Check out KellyMom.com. Great resource for allllll things breastfeeding. Covers alchohol consumption and what's safe to still feed Babe.

Personally, I don't want to take any chances. But, my doctor suggested pumping before & just bottle feeding if you want to have a drink.

You can buy test strips for breast milk for this.

After baby goes to bed I have a glass or two with dinner. She sleeps for a 4-5 hour stretch then nurses. I've never nursed when feeling tipsy or buzzed but see nothing wrong with having a glass of wine to unwind. My pediatrician and lactation consultant both said this was fine.

If you're safe to drive you're safe to breastfeed. Not to say you'd want to sip on wine all day everyday but once in a while is fine

Pump and dump isn't really a thing anymore. Alcohol metabolizes out of your breast milk at the same rate that it leaves the rest of your system. So you don't have to pump out  "bad milk" the alcohol leaves on its own. If you accidentally time it poorly and end up feeling tipsy at the same time bae needs to eat then there is still alcohol in your milk and you might want to use a bottle. too much alcohol probably could effect your supply though. But dang new moms deserve some wine from time to time! ♥♥

Idk but my mom (who is anti-alcohol) told me to have a beer to up my milk supply lol I have no idea if that works or not but I hate beer and I don't think a nice tequila on the rocks will up my supply 😂😂😂

Once you no longer feel the effects of the alcohol it's also no longer in your milk so you don't have to pump and dump. But when I went out with my friends I still felt it when I got home AND my boobs were super full so I did pump and dump while my husband gave her a bottle but when she woke up to eat again 4 hours later I felt fine and nursed her and she was happy and alert as can be. You'll be fine ❤️
