I was always told if that's the case, choose the second because if you truly liked/loved the first then there wouldn't be a second. But idk.

Yup. It's the worst. You feel so torn. Both times I decided to stay with the person I was in a relationship with though. The first time I regretted it, the second time, I ended up with the love of my life.
