Not returning after maternity leave?

Question

Anyone not returning to work after their maternity leave? Short term disability said they will pay me one lump sum for 8 weeks maternity leave, then my claim is complete. I'm wondering if I need to go back to work so I don't have to pay the money back.

I am not planning to go back after baby, but I am waiting to tell them until my leave is almost up. My leave is all benefited time so from my understanding I won't have to pay anything back if I don't return.

I am seriously considering it... my short term disability is through a third party company offered through my employer that I pay every pay period so I believe I am clear to quit if I want to...

I've heard of cases where mom doesn't go back to work and her job makes her pay back. Why don't you go back for a couple of days and then quit?

I don't think so since the state is paying for your leave, your job isn't. Just make sure your job fills out their part of the paperwork before you tell them you're not going back. I plan on not going back but not telling them that until my leave is up.
