STD Diagnosis

I was diagnosed with herpes about six months ago. I know that it is extremely common, but it still makes me feel ashamed of myself. I am hoping other women who have it could help me come to terms with it. I'd also like to know about how you tell people. Not just sexual partners, but friends as well.
