If you were provided an extra service you didn't ask for, would you pay for it?

Question

Example.. you take clothes to dry cleaners. At pick up, he/she says they Hemmed the bottom of your pants at an extra cost but you didn't have prior knowledge.

I'd like to say I wouldn't pay, but to be honest, I have social anxiety and always "follow the rules" because I don't like getting in trouble. So, I'd pay... but I'd never return to the same place.

Shouldn't have to pay for that because you didn't ask for it. What if you were gonna hem it later? What if you didn't have the money? Shouldn't be forced to pay for a service you didn't ask for. If they called and said "hey, we noticed there was a tear and wanted to hem it for you. It is an extra $ charge. This is how much it'd be. Would you like us to take care of that for you?"  Then you have the opportunity to say yay or nay. You say yay..you pay.

I have ZERO anxiety about telling someone "I did not ask for this." As a customer you actually can complain because they did it without your permission. I expect that you will do what I have asked of you. Even taking into consideration that they aren't liable for damages. So if I drop off my favorite dress and it shrinks from dry cleaning I can take that over "we altered something for you and it will be ____ dollars". Hell no I'm not paying.

No, you didn't ask them to do it, they shouldn't just assume then charge you for their assumption. It's different if they check with you first but in this case it's different

Why would they be doing your ham without your permission? How do they know how long you want your pants to be? I would say hell no I'm not paying for that service… I liked my pants the way they were!

I would have been very unhappy about this b/c A. They didn't ask & B. I've taken the hem out of many pants b/c they weren't long enough. If I hadn't fixed the hem yet myself, it was likely b/c the pants were brand new & I didn't have time to hem them before leaving when I wore them.

It's like saying if you order a pizza and they decide to give you a thicker crust and extra cheese without telling you and charging you extra for it lol. Nope. Not paying for that, not to mention it's not what you even asked for..if anything, if they mess up what you want they should be giving you a discount for not listening.

It's part of drying cleaning if they damage your clothes you would want them to pay that item back, so if they repair your item unknown to you,  yes you should pay
