Is birth control causing me not to conceive?..

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 7 months with no luck. I was on birth control for 5 years due to my period being irregular and heavy. I have been off of it for almost a year and still no luck. How long does it usually take to get pregnant after being on birth control for that long?..

I wish doctors would investigate abnormal periods instead of using birth control as a cure all. There could be something going on that is preventing conception, a reason for your heavy and irregular periods.

Have you had a preconception visit yet? If not, make an appointment and bring up your history before birth control.

That being said, if you're under 35, both in good health and have regular periods, it can up to a year to get pregnant. And most doctors say it takes 3 months for your body to recover from birth control.

I was on the pill for years and got pregnant the month after I stopped taking it. Was it the pill you were on? I heard the shot can take awhile to get out of your system but not sure how true that is. Hoping and praying you get pregnant soon!
