1st postpartum period

So I'm breastfeeding and got my first period today 3 months postpartum. It's so heavy that I bleed through a regular tampon every 2 hours. FTM here so I wasn't sure if this was normal. I was hoping I'd be lucky enough not to ovulate while breastfeeding. I turned 30 on Sunday. It's as if my internal clock was like nope you have to start ovulating again NOW. Ugh. The cramps and PMS are so real. It's been a whole year since my last period. I could definitely do without.
