How many days?

How many days after your missed period should you take a pregnancy test? I am 3 days late, but wasn't able to take a pregnancy test due to Christmas and being out of town. My husband says three days is too early and we should wait a full week, does anyone agree with this? My period is never late and I'm so curious to know, but he needs some convincing!
