does/can your boyfriend go with you to your first doctor appointment?

I'm 20 and it's my first time pregnant. I have to make my first doctors appointment and my boyfriend really wants to go, but I'm unsure what happens at the first appointment? I read that they give you a Pap smear and bloodwork(don't know if that's true) so would he even see the baby? Should I just go alone? Thanks !

My first appointment was just paper work and check my blood pressure and did my family history and then my 2nd appointment was my Pap smear and depending if your fat along enough I was 13 weeks they check baby heart beat and I did blood work seperatly like a week after my first appointment and so in a month is my 3rd appointment it just a check of my weight blood pressure and I get an ultrasound finally lol I'll be I think about 18 weeks when I get my first ultrasound  I think  every doctor different and depends but when you. Call you could ask them like what will happen at my first appointment and will your boyfriend be able to go

My husband has been to all but one of my appointments, your bf totally can go! My office does the pap and physical exam on the second visit so that's the one I left him at home for. For my first visit they asked a bunch of questions and did a transvaginal ultra sound and it was really cool to share that moment with my husband. If they do have to do a pap or something you could always have him step out of the room for that part.

My first appointment was a physical, a Pap smear, asking lots of questions and blood work. My husband was bored 😂 but he did get to ask the questions he had (like if I could really keep up with my workouts) so that part was beneficial. Now he only goes to appointments when I have ultrasounds because the inbetween appointments have been less than 10 minutes long and consist of checking heartbeat with a monitor (which I have at home) and checking where my uterus is at. I need him to save his vacation and sick days for when the baby comes !

All doctors offices are different. My husband always comes with me. We had our first ultrasound at 5 weeks & 3 days, and only saw the gestational sac and yolk sac, no fetal pole. We came back exactly  one week later and saw our baby and her little heartbeat and heard it beating. Some doctors will do an early scan for dating purposes (early ultrasounds are more accurate for your due date). Some won't do them. Regardless, your boyfriend can come with you. For some things (weight check & vitals, for me at least) he will be asked to stay in the waiting room. Then when you go into an actual room to see the doctor, he will be able to come with you, as well as any time you are moved to a different room to have an ultrasound (if your doctor's office doesn't have ultrasound machines in each room). Hi! I'm also 20! I'm 37 weeks now and I think at my first appointment they took blood, urine and went over with me what will happen at each appointment from then on. I also had my first ultrasound that day on a tiny machine looking thing! Which was very sweet ❤️ I never had a PAP but it could be different through different doctors. My boyfriend has been to every appointment this whole pregnancy and loves being involved in what's going on at each stage. I'd say it's normal for him to want to come and I'd also say let him! It's great for him be involved and there for you. Even though it was weird at first I'm so glad my boyfriend comes to them as I often forget things now 😂

I wanted to go alone 😊

I was very nervous & scared & if there was bad news I wanted to handle it alone first (weird I know but I've always been like that) 🙈

They did give me a Pap Smear since I was over 20 & have never had one & right after I had a transvaginal ultrasound where I saw & heard the heartbeat ❤

My office doesn't do blood work there, so before I left I had to pick up paperwork from the receptionist!

Hubby took days off for my 13 Week ultrasound, 18 Week anatomy scan, 27 Week glucose test, & 35 Week growth scan 👌

Most likely yes! My OB's patient rooms have a chair for the patient's person that is with them. My hubs was with me for the first appt. He was in the room during the whole ordeal. He has been to every appt since then except one. They have never told him to leave the room or turned him away.

You could just call your doc office and double check but more than likely there is no problem with your partner being there.

I told him he didn't need to come to the boring check up ones, but after he missed one he felt really out of the loop so he wanted to come even though nothing was really said.
