If kegels involve tightening and labour is pushing, how is it meant to help?

From what I've heard I don't know if they help with labour but with recovery and strengthen your urinary tract as some moms and moms to be pee a little when they sneeze or laugh.

I was told they help with bladder/leakage control more than labor.

My OBG said they don't really help at all. She said you can always do them if you want but it's not going to make a difference in your labour.

Although my midwife recommend stopping doing them a week or two before labor.
