how often to comdoms break?

I  have a question. Me and my boyfriend have been talking about having sex for the first time. We are both virgins and we are just wondering how often comdoms break beacause we can't take a chance on me getting pregnant!?  Please help

Hi! Losing your virginity is a scary but exciting thing to think about. I applaud you for seeking help on protection before jumping into the act blindly!!
My spouse and I have been using condoms for over 2 years now and we've only had one break ONCE, very recently (because it was a bit too small).

So here are some tips to make sure everything goes smoothly:

- as I said, make sure the condom fits and isn't too cheap! Most condoms are one size fits all, but if he is very big, you might want to look into the Magnum brand. The cheaper the condom, the more likely a break. We use Trojan! He also pulls out right as he's about to cum.

- make sure you're lubricated! If you get and stay wet easily, you shouldn't have a problem. Otherwise, you might want to make sure the condom is lubricated or buy a tube. Dry friction can bust a condom.

- birth control is always a great back up to have. If you aren't on it and can't get any beforehand, scout out some vaginal contraceptive film (VCF) from the store by the condoms. These are little films you fold and insert into the vagina prior to sex. They dissolve and release spermicide. Although their prevention rate isn't as high as birth control, it's better than nothing!

- if all else fails and an accident happens, Plan B pills work. They are designed to be taken within 72 hours of a slip up (the sooner the better) and work much like birth control, altering the mucus in your uterus to prevent an egg from sticking and implant in. You can get them off the shelf at any drugstore or Walmart/Target. But beware, they are in the $40-$60 range.

So investing in a pack of condoms ($7-9), birth control (most clinics offer a certain brand FREE, otherwise $20-50 a month) and some VCF ($8-10), you will come out cheaper and safer.

Just make sure they're not old. That's what causes them to break because the lubricant dries and then it's just dry rubber (yuck)
