Birthing ball to induce labor?

Possibly a dumb question but I always see women recommending sitting on a birthing ball to induce labor - what exactly does this mean? Just sit and bounce? Anyone have any insight or additional info?!

My midwife said it helps guide baby lower and open up the hips more. I just find it more comfortable than anything else, probably because I can easily shift and rotate. Bouncing eases some of my pain but not much.

I've been bouncing on mine, rocking my hips back and forth, and also rotating hips in clockwise then counter clockwise position. Read about these online.
