Rice Cereal??

My two month old has his checkup on Thursday and our doctor recommended giving him a little rice cereal in his bottle at night. He is ebf right now. She said it would be ok to thicken it up at night to help him sleep better. Just seems so early to me. Anyone else been told this already? Remind you he is already 15lbs haha

Rice cereal is high in arsenic, a choking hazard in a bottle and even then shouldn't be given until 6 months. (Some docs say 4 months is okay). Follow your instincts momma!

No! Theres no nutritional benefits to rice cereal and it will NOT help baby sleep. Develop a nighttime routine and keep nsps consistent in the day.

My dr recommended it for our baby- he has pretty severe reflux. I didn't feel great about it but wanted my baby to feel better.. I will say it doesn't make him sleep any longer! But does help with spit up.. so I only give on his bad days. Follow your instincts!

how old is your pedetrician? I think older doctors tend to think it's ok because they see their patients grow up fine.

I know this was very popular back in the day to help thicken the milk so baby feels more full, I know a few moms that did it and their baby was happy and healthy. I exclusively breastfeed so I can't tell you if you should or shouldn't, mom knows her baby best.

I wouldn't. Read about leaky gut. In my opinion a few months of lost sleep is better than harming my child for life. My pediatrician is young and he says I can start food at 4 months. I didn't with my first and I won't with this one either. Better safe than sorry. :)

I did with my first at two months and he is perfectly fine. My newborn is two months. I tried it with her bit she doesn't like it and is impatient when it is time to eat.
