cloth diapers?

Any tips for a new mom that wants to use cloth dipers? Which ones are the best

I had my first 7.5 years ago and we used Bum Genius 2.0 pocket velcro. I kept them and will be using them again for this babe. I prefer the pockets because you just slide the insert in. I also preferred velcro because I could get a much tighter seal than with the snaps, especially since my first was never chubby and very thin. I had about 22 diapers which allowed me to wash them every other day. When a diaper was dirty, I would put it in an empty sealed trash can in the bathroom. If it was a poo, I'd dump it in the toilet first and then throw the diaper in with bucket. Cloth was extremely easy and really not gross at all as most people seem to think it is.

I LOVE my Alva Baby Pocket Diapers! They are hands down the most affordable and if you read online reviews, you will get nonstop positive mamas raving about them.

I preferred pockets because I could decide what inserts I wanted (I recommend bamboo) and if you have a heavy wetter, consider FSTs (Flour Sack Towels) which you can find any where really. Pockets are quick to stuff and easy to dry.

Also... a friendly reminder to never put Microfibre inserts against your baby's bum as it absorbs their natural moisture and causes rashes etc. Also look into liners if your SO doesn't like the idea of dealing with so much poop lol

I'd recommend storing dirty diapers in wet bags... No need for soaking or rinsing! Just throw full wet bag in the washing machine, put on cold rinse then hot-cold cycle with soap nuts... Hang covers/pockets and put prefolds/inserts in dryer

I would recommend either getting prefolds and covers because you need less covers because you can just wipe them clean and use them again... This is the most affordable option. Works great from newborn but the covers would be sized so you'd have to get about 6 for each size. The other option id recommend is one size pocket diapers, we use amp (Canadian) these are super cute, can technically be used from newborn to potty training (some would argue they don't fit well in newborns) and are pretty easy to use as you can just lay the insert in the diaper and fasten the snaps. This option is a little more expensive but worth it because you'd only have to buy one set of diapers for baby. We will also be trying prefolds with wool coves but I can't say how we like it because we haven't tried yet. I would recommend using soap nuts to wash diapers as it's much cheaper than other cloth diaper detergents and much better for babies skin!
