Major Eyerolls
On New Years eve SO and I went out to dinner to celebrate his birthday with his parents and brother 🎁🎉🎈. All is going good till the subject of names came up. On a previous post I mentioned that my MILs reaction to our choice of boy's name was😖 so silly me I thought this time she would love the girl name we picked out 😂. So SO says our favorite for a girl name so far is Aiko. Again the reaction around the table was: MIL😣, BIL 😕.
Here were some of the comments they made and mine and SO's response.
Mil: "that's a weird name."
ME: "not really Ai means love in Chinese, Aiko is cute and its gaining popularity here. Besides you named BIL Barclay and Aiko is weird? 😎"
Mil:😣....... Barclay is a middle name.
BIL: you don't have to try to be to exotic. you should name your child something that is more mainstream in 🇺🇸 or they'll get picked on in school. We went through lots of names for our daughter and finally came up with something that was normal or she would be bullied. 💁🏻
SO: seriously???!! 🙇🏻 my wife is Chinese!! 🇸🇬
mil: oh now I rember why I dislike Atas, there's this commercial on tv that's a back stretcher medical therapy device branded Atlas (something I do t rember now😝) and it keep repeating Atlas and that's all I think of. Everyone here will always refer to this commercial as he grows up! 😱
Me and so: ummm doubt it. 🙅🏻😐
Step father in law: we went through hundreds of pages of names for our dog, give it more time.
SO: we did to and like Atlas and Aiko. 😌
mil: your only 12 weeks pregnant you'll change your mind. 🙏🏻
Me:😒 if we come up with something better then what we have then sure but atm we love Atlas and Aiko. 😘✌🏻
Is Aiko and Atlas really that off the wall and unusual??! We weren't trying to go for weird we just saw it in the NAme list and liked it! My parents love it!! (Thank good ness because I can't deal with 4 grumpy grandparents.)
Edit: the middle name will be very common, Atlas John and Aiko May, after both my parents. So they can just call them by their middle names it they really feel shagrinned for Atlas or Aiko. :)
A bit more background on why we love these names. Aiko is easy enough, I'm Chinese and Ai = ❤️. But I've been traveling around the world being homeschooled most of my life with my parents and SO and I travel a lot internationally together too. We want to give our child a sense of adventure and exploring sprit. Also, SO is an antique dealer so we have a love for quirky, old timey feel things :)
