My period wont decide what is doing

Last Thursday I started spotting. I thought my period was coming. Friday evening it got heavy. So I put a tampon in before bed. I wine up and the tampon had nothing on it. So i wore a pad just in case. I had very light spotting Saturday and Sunday. Last night it got heavy enough for a tampon again, this morning, nothing. Any suggestions on what's going on?
