Should different "gender identities" be taught to impressionable children in schools?

"Impressionable" children? Your gender is not a choice. What you identify as is who you are. Teaching someone about the differences of people doesn't do anything to them except educate them. Just because you teach them that some people are transgender doesn't mean that they're going to wake up one morning and say that they are. That's not how it works...

Children are not old enough to decide their gender identity. 
I believe at the age 15-16 is the appropriate time.

Yes trans people may have noticed from early on that they're trans but children change their minds, and they're extremely impressionable.

This isn't a thing that should be taught to children, they're not old enough to make a life changing decision.

I don't think anything impressionable should be taught to young kids. It isn't the teachers place. Just like homosexuality, contraception... Anything beside the basic what sex is, a man inserts his penis into a vagina and he ejaculates which combined with an egg makes a baby.

Not giving them a choice in the religion they are supposed to follow their entire life, but god forbid, they learn how to be open minded towards others.

You're right they are impressionable, impressionable to your pre existing biases and misconceptions, it is far better they are taught comprehensive and ACCURATE facts about different family structures and sexual or gender identities as well as how to be inclusive towards others who are still struggling to carve out their space in society, whether or not they actually identify as the people they are learning about.

(And, as a personal opinion, I think it is extremely better to be learning these things away from religion/religious beliefs, for those of you who are bringing it up. Religion has some pretty severe biases that simply do not allow the safe learning space for those people that need to be included, in a positive environment. As positive as any religion can be it they all tend to have pretty rigid rules. I also wonder how many of you mean an education in every religion equally, without a special focus on the socially privileged religion that I'm pretty sure you're all implying.)

I'm not going to lie; my first interpretation of this was as asking if gender stereotypes should be taught/reinforced at school, to which my response would be wishing they could be avoided but sadly accepting some amount as inevitable.

But if you mean "Should children learn that some people are trans or agender or genderqueer?" then yes. Absolutely. School's a good place to learn about diversity, maybe especially types of diversity student may not have personal experience with.

Why are you so scared of your children being told anything you might not agree with? I want my children to be as educated as possible and form their own opinions. My hope for my children is that they are much smarter, kinder and more successful than me. This will never happen if they are only exposed to what I know.
