Best pain relief medication during labor and delivery?

I really want to squat while delivering but I know you can't if you get an epidural. What are some other good pain medications? I know I won't be able to handle a natural labor and delivery so that's not an option :(

That may not technically be true. I had an epidural and I was able to put the back of my bed up at almost 90 degrees and then kneel facing the back and hold on to the back while pushing for almost 2 hours. I needed my doula and a nurse to help position me and make sure I didn't fall while moving, but I was actually able to be pretty active. And they can turn down the medication in your epidural so that you have more sensation. I know everyone has a different experience but this was mine.

Talked to my OB nurse friend. She said on her unit they do either oral Tylenol or they'll do morphine. Half IV and half IM.
