Jump-starting a period??

I had sex with my boyfriend, and within 20 minutes I was cramping and noticed that there was blood. This is our first time, and I can't tell if this is how it is to have your hymen broken or if he started my period. Today IS supposed to be my day one (and we did have sex today) so could he have started my period??
