Boyfriend doesn't own a phone?!

Question

So we're in a long distance relationship and it's been really hard because he doesn't own a phone since his dad won't let him. (his dad is a military guy saying 'my house my rules') I've never seen him or heard his voice because he only has the first generation ipod and it doesn't have a cam!

What should i do? Is this a hopeless case? Should I end it with him?

Please I'm really sad about it and I don't know what to do :(

Additional info: I once tried calling him on kik but it says his kik version is an old version.

tbh having seen and been in similar situations to him, I don't think he's catfishing or fake at all-- I wasn't allowed to have a job until I was 20, almost 21, because I "had to focus on school". We lived in a very rural area at the time and I didn't have my own transportation, so there was fuck all I could do. I had a clamshell phone until I was 21 and my brother (20) only just got his first phone.

It can seem really silly from the outside, but if you grow up in a very restrictive and controlling environment that mindset doesn't just go away when you hit 18+. even if you want to change things, if you don't have the tools to do so you're effectively trapped. and like, with how tech negative a lot of parents are? it doesn't even surprise me he can be almost 21 and not have a phone. especially since you said he has a military father.

theres honestly no sure fire way to tell over long distance-- either he's lying or he's not. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, but I also don't think I could handle being in that kind of relationship. if you continue it, the best thing you can do is support him and encourage him to get the fuck out of that house. if he can go to college and move into a dorm, that's a really great first step. plus, campus would probably have public computers for him to use!

Sounds fake to me... if he wanted to hed find a way to get ahold of you other then kik he could use a landline go to a pay phone something to call you unless his dad has him locked in his room with only his first gen ipod id sAy something is up with that whole situation

You said that you guys are gonna be 21 soon... his dad has no power over if he can have a phone or not. If he's 20 he should have a job and be able to afford a phone or at least a webcam on his own. I mean, I think it's fake but if it's not I would consider the fact that his parents still have control over his life and he probably doesn't have a job... he's 20... so maybe that should be enough to break it off considering you've never even seen the guy.

Reading this all I think of are all the catfish episodes. Idk to me it's kind of weird he doesn't have a phone, I mean unless he's younger it's a little hard to believe. Does he not have a computer with a webcam? Webcams are as cheap as $20. If he honestly can't show who he is & he's old enough to access these devices without a parents permission then I would seriously consider him not being who he says he is.

I watch catfish, so with that knowledge I'm telling you this is a huge red flag. He doesn't have a phone? How old is he? Doesn't matter how strict his dad is, if he has an iPod there certainly is some way for him to at least show you his face. If you've never seen what he looks like, he's not who he says he is
